The Olympic Park which is being created in the Lower Lee Valley will be at the heart of the London 2012 Games. It is one of the largest construction and engineering projects in Europe. The 2.5sq km site will provide a fantastic setting for the Games transforming during legacy into one of the largest new urban parks in Europe for 150 years. The 'big build' stage began 3 months early, when construction started on the Olympic Stadium in May 2008. Building work will accelerate over the next year when construction begins on each other other 'big five' venues.: the Aquatics Centre, VeloPark, International Broadcast Centre/Media Press Centre and the Olympic Village.
